Amber Thomas is a 3rd dan black belt instructor at Power with Purpose. She is passionate about the art of taekwondo and teaching students how to unlock the power within themselves.
Amber started taekwondo along with her brother and parents when she was eight years old and has been an instructor at Power with Purpose since 2000.
“We trained as a family and I was given two options for my training. I was able to quit once I turned 18 or get my black belt. Well, I got my black belt at 13 and by then I was hooked. I have trained ever since and love the sport, community and skills it has taught me.”
To Amber, the taekwondo philosophy means having the skills and intuition to look after herself in a safe way. “It also means being surrounded by a community of similar-minded people who work together to build each other up.”
For Amber, being a taekwondo instructor is so much more than just a job. “It’s like being part of a family and a supportive community. I enjoy being able to help others and being part of it all.”
The most important thing Amber teaches her students is confidence. “I want them to only do the best they can and not compare themselves to anyone else but themselves.”
Her proudest accomplishment in her taekwondo career has been becoming a teacher. “I wasn’t expecting it, and I took it as a huge honour to be given this responsibility.”
