Alex’s journey to proudly wear a black belt was full of both challenges and personal achievements.

When his parents first read about Power with Purpose in the school newsletter, Alex was hesitant about this thing called ‘taekwondo’… now he is breaking through timber boards!

Alex initially thought he would never enjoy martial arts, standing outside his first class in September 2013. After tears, gut-dropping moments and rattling nerves, Alex watched taekwondo being practised for the first time.

“I was so nervous after I stepped out of the car, I was crying my heart out when Michael first came out. He was so welcoming and tried to get me a little more relaxed by asking me about video games.”

A week flashed by and his confidence grew… he was ready to take his first class. As soon as Alex learnt some of his first basic moves of taekwondo, he was loving it.

“I kept on training every week and was so proud when I finally graded to my yellow belt at the start of 2014. I even got a gold medal for training the hardest!”

Alex is still training hard and plans to continue his journey with Power with Purpose, furthering his skills at taekwondo.
